Background

On 30 November 2020, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) marks the 55th anniversary of its operation. As a regional inter-governmental organization established among Southeast Asian countries, SEAMEO takes pride in its achievements over the years as Southeast Asian’s leading organization in promoting regional cooperation and human resource development in education, science, and culture.

To celebrate the SEAMEO 55th Anniversary, the SEAMEO Secretariat will conduct “55th SEAMEO Anniversary Photo Contest” with its theme “Reimagining Education, Science, and Culture”. This competition aims to capture and spotlight the individual’s perspectives and reflections on how Southeast Asian people view Education, Science, and Culture amidst these challenging times.    

This competition provides opportunities for professional and amateur photographers, students, teachers and general public who are Southeast Asian nationals* to participate.

(Note*: Southeast Asian nationals include residents in countries, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam)

 

What to Capture

The 55th SEAMEO Anniversary Photo Contest with the theme “Reimagining Education, Science, and Culture” seeks images from across Southeast Asia that showcase people actively involved in the following SEAMEO Priority Areas in Education, Science, and Culture.  
 
The image should be related to one of the following categories 1) Education, 2 Science, and 3) Culture, and the SEAMEO Priority Areas of each category:

Category 1: Education
SEAMEO Priority Areas under Education:   

  1. Achieving universal Early Childhood Education 
  2. Addressing barriers to inclusion
  3. Promoting resilience in the face of emergencies
  4. Promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
  5. Revitalising teacher education
  6. Harmonising higher education and research
  7. Adopting a 21st century curriculum

Category 2: Science
SEAMEO Priority Areas under Science:

  1. Health literacy: psychosocial and mental health
  2. Natural resource and Environmental management: Circular economy
  3. Climate change adaptation
  4. Biodiversity and biotechnology
  5. Food security and nutrition and precision agriculture
  6. Data science, analytics, and AI
  7. STEM education for future workforces

 

Category 3: Culture
SEAMEO Priority Areas under Culture:      

  1. Creation, tradition, and innovation
  2. Ethics and legal framework
  3. Resilience and traditional knowledge
  4. Peace and inter-cultural understanding
  5. Literacy and appreciation in the modern world
  6. Harnessing technology for heritage/culture preservation
  7. Heritage science

Guidelines

  1. The 55th SEAMEO Anniversary Photo Contest 2020 is open to all Southeast Asian nationals except the SEAMEO Secretariat employees.
  2. The photos submitted must be relevant to the theme and categories. The theme of the contest is “Reimagining for Education, Science, and Culture”.  Category of entry include: 1) Education, 2) Science, and 3) Culture.  
  3. The entries/photos must be taken within the year of 2020.     
  4. All entries must be submitted via the Online Submission Form:  http://link.seameo.org/55photocontest-submission during the contest period (10 October to 15 November 2020).  
  5. Submission of photos to the email address (55photocontest@seameo.org) will NOT be accepted.
  6. Deadline for entry submission: Sunday 15 November 2020, 11:59 PM.      
  7. Each contestant can submit a maximum of 3 photos for each category (1- Education, 2-Science, 3-Culture) or totalling 9 photos/person. 
  8. To minimize cases of plagiarism, contestants will be asked during the submission process to certify that:
    1. they own the photographs submitted and that they grant SEAMEO Secretariat full permission to use it in knowledge packaging, sharing, and advocacy related to the SEAMEO’s mandate.
    2. The SEAMEO Secretariat shall ensure that the photographer will be properly credited for photos used, especially in mass-produced print publications;
    3. the photographs are original, have not won any previous photo contests, have not been published elsewhere (whether print or electronic), and have not been submitted as entries to any other photo contests during the 55th SEAMEO Anniversary Photo Contest (2020) period.
    4. the photos have not been digitally altered and/or enhanced in any way other than simple cropping; and
    5. in case this photograph contains an identifiable child/minor subject, the child's parent/guardian has given consent/permission (written or verbal) to use the photograph for the purposes deemed appropriate by SEAMEO Secretariat.
  9. Entries must be digital, colored, in JPEG format, and at least 3,000 pixels wide for a horizontal image, or 3,000 pixels tall for a vertical image at 300 dpi, or 8-10 MB/photo.
  10. Each entry should have the following details in English in the Online Submission Form. 
    1. name of photographer and country of origin;
    2. photo caption/description;
    3. place where the photo was taken (include town/municipality, province/state, and country);
    4. complete date taken;
    5. equipment/type of camera used/mobile phone; and
    6. other information that SEAMEO Secretariat may deem necessary to collect for reference purposes.
  11. The criteria for selecting the winners are
